1-Oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indene-4-carbonitrile is an organic chemical compound that is used as a reagent in the Friedel-Crafts acylation of chiral chlorides. This reaction is often monitored by the change in optical rotation or by the formation of precipitates. The reaction with malonate and benzylamine derivatives takes place in the liquid phase with tetrahydrofuran as solvent and hydrochloric acid as catalyst. 1-Oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-indene-4-carbonitrile reacts with chloride to form a chlorinated product. Chlorination may be carried out using chlorine gas or by reacting chlorine with hydrochloric acid.
