This compound is a lipopolysaccharide that has been isolated from tropical plants. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. This compound shows antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as strong antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria. 2-(3-Oxocyclopentyl)acetic acid also has chemopreventive effects on cancer cells in vitro and is a bioactive phytochemical that may be used in functional foods to reduce inflammation and protect against cancer.
