cis-Octahydroisoindole is a synthetic chemical that is used in wastewater treatment. It is a chloride ion scavenger and can be used to remove the chemical from the water before it enters the sewage system. cis-Octahydroisoindole has been shown to have an effect on blood glucose levels. It has also been used as a reagent in industrial preparations, such as diethyl succinate. This compound reacts with ferrite and hydroxide solution to form ferric octahydroisoindole, which can then be processed into other chemicals. The process of synthesizing cis-octahydroisoindole requires hydrochloric acid, carbonyl reduction, sodium hydroxide solution, anhydrous sodium.
