Información del producto
- Methanesulfonothioic acid S-octyl ester
Octyl Methanesulfonate (OMS) is a potent irreversible inhibitor of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) transaminase, the enzyme that converts GABA to succinic semialdehyde. It has been shown to inhibit GABA breakdown in the brain and potentiate the effects of other drugs that act on the GABA receptor. OMS is also an analog of flunitrazepam, which is a benzodiazepine used as a hypnotic agent. It is injected into animals to produce homologous recombinants with subunits from different species for study in electrophysiology experiments. The α-subunit of OMS binds irreversibly to the active site of GABA transaminase and blocks its catalytic activity. OMS has no effect on alcohol metabolism or on butanol dehydrogenase activity.
