Descripción

Olaquindox is a drug that is used to treat eye disorders. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of multidrug efflux pumps in mitochondria, which are membrane-bound proteins that pump drugs and other harmful substances out of cells. Olaquindox also prevents the release of nitric oxide from the enzyme nitrate reductase, which may be important for its genotoxic activity. The drug binds to DNA and inhibits transcription by binding to nuclear DNA and inhibiting the function of RNA polymerase II. Olaquindox also inhibits apoptosis by blocking cytochrome c release and activation of caspases. This drug can be used as an analytical method for wastewater treatment or as a way to study complex enzymes in vitro.
