3-Oxotetrahydrofuran is an organic compound that is classified as a heterocyclic compound. This chemical has a glycosidic bond with a hydroxyl group and a carbonyl group. 3-Oxotetrahydrofuran can be used to generate metal hydroxides, which are used in the synthesis of sodium-dependent glucose, or to reduce glucocorticoid receptors. 3-Oxotetrahydrofuran has been shown to have antioxidant properties and can be used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases and cancer. It also may act as an anti-inflammatory agent by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis.
