Descripción:1-Octadecanethiol is a molecule with a long hydrocarbon tail and a hydroxyl group at one end. It is soluble in water, but not in organic solvents. 1-Octadecanethiol has been used for the production of coatings that are non-toxic and resistant to corrosion. The molecule can be reacted with 3-mercaptopropionic acid to form polyethylene glycols, which are widely used as additives to various products, including foods. 1-Octadecanethiol is also being studied for use as an electrode material in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and as a cathode material for lithium ion batteries.
