Oxalic acid monoethyl ester reacts with phosphorus pentachloride to form phosphorus oxychloride and ethyl diazoacetate. The reaction of oxalic acid monoethyl ester with ethyl malonate produces ethyl diazoacetate and malonic acid. Oxalic acid monoethyl ester can be used as an organic catalyst for many reactions, including the oxidation of alcohols, thiols, and amines.
