(R)-(+)-5,5',6,6',7,7',8,8'-Octahydro-1,1'-bi-2-naphthol is a chiral ligand that has been isolated in an isolated yield of 83% from the reaction of piperidine with imine. The product is obtained by hydrogenation of the corresponding chlorides. The synthesis can be accomplished stereocontrolling and by controlling the acid catalyst. (R)-(+)-5,5',6,6',7,7',8,8'-Octahydro-1,1'-bi-2-naphthol is used in organic chemistry as a ligand for palladium catalysts. It also shows catalytic effect on reactions involving alkylation and anilines.
