Octaphenyloctasilsesquioxane is a molecule that is used as a thermal-expansion agent and in water-vapor absorption. It has been shown to absorb ultraviolet (uv) radiation and has a high degree of chemical stability. Octaphenyloctasilsesquioxane is also used in the synthesis of boron nitride, which is a white or black solid with a high melting point. This material can be used for the production of semiconductor materials, such as silicon carbide and gallium nitride. It has been shown that octaphenyloctasilsesquioxane can be synthesized by reacting diazonium salt with reactive functional groups such as hydroxyls, amines, carboxylic acids, phenols, or thiols.
