3-Phenylpyridine is a molecule that belongs to the group of heterocyclic compounds. It has been shown to be an inhibitor of population growth in humans and other mammals. 3-Phenylpyridine has also been shown to inhibit the synthesis of picolinic acid, which is an intermediate in the synthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP). The inhibition of this enzyme leads to a decrease in ATP production, lowering the cell's energy capacity. 3-Phenylpyridine also binds to chloride ions and forms hydrogen bonds with carboxylate groups, which are important for supramolecular interactions.
