Descripción:Potassium tetrathionate is an ionic compound that contains a sulfur atom. This compound is a strong reducing agent and can be used as a disinfectant for wastewater treatment. It has been shown to be effective against hl-60 cells, which are human leukemic cells. The mechanism of action is by the formation of disulfide bonds with cysteine residues in the cell nuclei. Potassium tetrathionate has also shown to have guanine nucleotide-binding properties and to inhibit copper chloride, sodium salts, and redox potentials.
