Pentafluorophenyl acetate is a fluorinated compound with the chemical formula C5F5OCH3. It is a fluoroquinolone antimicrobial agent that inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the bacterial antigen, which prevents the synthesis of new proteins. Pentafluorophenyl acetate has been shown to inhibit tethered growth of bacteria on metal surfaces and can be used as an antiseptic in food processing environments. Pentafluorophenyl acetate also has been shown to have growth factor activity, which may be due to its ability to react with nucleophilic attack at nitrogen atoms.
