5-n-Propyluracil is a synthetic compound that has been found to interact with guanine in tumour cells. It is a nucleoside analogue that can be incorporated into DNA and RNA, causing the synthesis of abnormal sequences. 5-n-Propyluracil is used as an anticancer drug and has been shown to inhibit the polymerase activity of tumour cells. 5-n-Propyluracil also interacts with 8-chloroguanine, and this interaction may be responsible for its cytotoxicity against cancer cells.
