2-Perfluorohexylethyl bromide (2PFHEB) is a fluorinated solvent that has been used in the photoelectron analysis of surfaces. It has been shown to induce the formation of a layer of uniform 2-perfluorohexylethyl bromide molecules on the surface. This layer facilitates the transfer of electrons from the surface to an x-ray detector, which is used to identify the surface properties. The molecular structure and particle morphology can be analyzed by transmission electron microscopy. 2PFHEB is also a useful solvent for cyclic voltammetry because it can dissolve many organic compounds and does not have any adverse effects on polymers.
