Profluralin is a herbicide that inhibits the growth of plants by inhibiting the enzyme acetyl-CoA carboxylase. The sample preparation includes adding a small amount of nitro, which is then heated in a nutrient solution to produce profluralin. Profluralin has been shown to be effective against experimental infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, and Enterobacter aerogenes in rats. It has also been used for detection of picolinic acid and fatty acids in urine samples as well as symptoms such as fever and vomiting. The analytical method for profluralin is linear regression analysis with dry weight measurements.
