Penfluron is a growth regulator that belongs to the class of alkyl alkyl, c1-c4 haloalkyl. It inhibits the synthesis of lipids and proteins by inhibiting protease activity and protein synthesis. Penfluron has been shown to be effective in controlling weevil populations, as well as in reducing nitrogen compounds and lipid biosynthesis. This compound has also been found to have a toxic effect on some insects such as the Ryanodine receptor (RYR)-mediated calcium release channel in cockroaches, which prevents muscle contraction.
