Pentaethylene glycol di(p-toluenesulfonate) is a hydrogen chloride donor that is used in mass spectrometry methods for the determination of coumarin derivatives. It can be synthesized by reacting p-toluenesulfonyl chloride with pentaethylene glycol. Pentaethylene glycol di(p-toluenesulfonate) has been shown to have chemical stability and can be isolated in an isolated yield of over 90%. This compound is stable to hydrolysis, oxidation, or reduction, and has an optical purity greater than 99%.
