• Descripción: Polyethylene glycol, dimethyl ether - MW 500 (PEG-DME) is a sodium salt of polyethylene glycol and dimethyl ether. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of bowel disease. The PEG-DME molecule has a hydrophilic end that reduces the water content and increases the viscosity of liquid, while the methyl ethyl ether functions as an emulsifier. The PEG-DME molecule also has a reactive end that can bind with water, increasing its viscosity. This makes it useful for treating bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's Disease because it can reduce the amount of fluid in the bowel, which decreases inflammation.
