2-(Pyridin-2-ylthio)acetohydrazide (PTZ) is a thienopyridine compound that inhibits the enzyme hepg2. It is also known as an inhibitor of bacterial growth, and has shown to be cytotoxic. PTZ has been used in screening tests for potential anticancer drugs. The cytotoxicity of PTZ was tested against human breast carcinoma (MCF-7) cells and colon cancer cells (HT-29). It showed inhibitory activities against these cancers and inhibited the growth of MCF-7 and HT-29 cells at concentrations between 10 μM and 100 μM.
