Pyrrolidine-1-sulfonyl chloride is a staphylococcal antibacterial agent. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity against a variety of bacteria, including S. epidermidis and faecalis, as well as P. aeruginosa and E. coli strains. Pyrrolidine-1-sulfonyl chloride has been shown to work by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins in the bacterial cell wall, preventing the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. It also inhibits nitric oxide production in S. aureus strains.
