Pentane-2,3,4-trione 3-oxime is a chelating agent that binds to metal ions in aqueous solution. It has been shown to have an average second order rate constant of 1.5 × 10. The active substances are formed by the reaction between hydrogen chloride and chloride ion with a molecule containing a carbonyl group. Pentane-2,3,4-trione 3-oxime is used as a pharmaceutical preparation for the treatment of various bacterial infections and skin diseases. This compound also has an anti-inflammatory effect due to its ability to chelate metal ions and decrease the production of prostaglandins.
