Piperidine-4-carbohydrazide is a chloride that inhibits the activity of butyrylcholinesterase and has antibacterial properties. It is synthesized from 4-methoxybenzenesulfonyl chloride and hydroxide solution. Piperidine-4-carbohydrazide has an inhibitory potential against bacteria, which can be used for the treatment of infections caused by these organisms. The inhibition of butyrylcholinesterase may contribute to its antibacterial activity as this enzyme is important in terminating cholinergic neurotransmission. In vivo studies have shown that piperidine-4-carbohydrazide has a half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) value of 5 mg/mL.
