3-Amino-2-thiophenecarboxylic acid is an antihypertensive agent that inhibits angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE). It has been shown to have a protective effect against cancer and to reduce locomotor activity in rodents. 3-Amino-2-thiophenecarboxylic acid is produced by the reaction of 2-aminoethanethiol with thiophenecarboxylic acid. The product is a salt, which can be obtained in acidic or alkaline solutions. This compound also inhibits replication of Trichomonas vaginalis and replicative DNA polymerases from Escherichia coli. 3-Amino-2-thiophenecarboxylic acid has been shown to have autophagy inducing properties, which may be due to its inhibition of protein synthesis.
