Propoxyacetic acid is a glycol ether that has been used as an industrial chemical and pharmaceutical preparation. It is an active substance in the class of pde-5 inhibitors. Propoxyacetic acid produces a decrease in blood pressure by inhibiting the conversion of nitric oxide to cyclic GMP, which causes vasodilation. The drug also inhibits the synthesis of ATP, which is essential for cellular energy production. Propoxyacetic acid is radioactive and reacts with other substances to form new compounds, such as hydrochloric acid.
