3-Pyrimidin-5-ylbenzaldehyde is an efficient, reusable and recyclable catalyst for organic reactions. It has been used as a catalyst for the production of nanotubular carbon, which has applications in nanotechnology. 3-Pyrimidin-5-ylbenzaldehyde can be protonated at the nitrogen atom to form a cationic form that is soluble in organic solvents. This cationic form catalyzes oxidation reactions, such as the conversion of alcohols to aldehydes and ketones.
