It has been shown to suppress the production of inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor and interleukin 4 in vitro. 4-(4-Phenoxybutoxy)-7H-furo[3,2-g]chromen-7-one also inhibits the activity of protein phosphatase 1 (PP1) and PP2B, which are enzymes that regulate the activity of other proteins by dephosphorylating them. The compound also suppresses the production of cytokines in wild type mice by inhibiting macrophages from releasing proinflammatory cytokines.
