D-Pantothenic acid can be synthesized by humans from pantetheine, which is found in the diet and can be made by bacteria in the intestines. Pantetheine can also be converted to coenzyme A through an intermediate called pantethine. The human body needs both pantethine and pantetheine to produce adequate levels of D-pantothenic acid.
