2,3,4-Pentahydroxydihydrochalcone (2',3',4',3,4-PHDC) is a recombinant molecule that was created by mutagenesis of the natural odorant binding protein (OBP). It has been found to have a high binding affinity for many different types of aromatic compounds. 2',3',4',3,4-PHDC binds to odorous molecules such as indole and amines. The fluorescence properties of 2',3',4',3,4-PHDC make it an ideal candidate for use in biosensors and fluorescent probes. This molecule has also been shown to be effective in insect olfaction experiments and may be used for research purposes.
