Phenol-d6 is a chemical compound that can be used for wastewater treatment. It is a high molecular weight compound that is soluble in water and does not dissolve in organic solvents. Phenol-d6 is used to remove chloride from wastewater, which results from the reaction of chlorine with organic compounds. The functional groups on phenol-d6 react with the chloride ions, forming insoluble hydrochloric acid, which precipitates from the solution. Phenol-d6 has been shown to bind to muscle proteins and has been used as a model for studying muscle reactions. Phenol-d6 also reacts with activated intermediates, such as nitrite and nitrate, in order to form stable products that are easier to analyze.
Phenol-d6 also has vibrational properties and can be ionized by electron capture or mass spectroscopy.
