2-(2-Propen-1-yl)benzenepropanoic acid is a hydrophobic inhibitor molecule that binds to the enzyme benzyl esterase, which hydrolyzes benzylic esters. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to increased levels of benzylic esters in cells and tissues, resulting in an accumulation of toxic metabolites. 2-(2-Propen-1-yl)benzenepropanoic acid has high binding affinity for the enzyme and forms a tight intramolecular complex with the active site subsite. This nonpeptide inhibitor is not degraded by proteases and has a high specificity for benzyl esters. The affinity of 2-(2-Propen-1-yl)benzenepropanoic acid for its target is similar to that of peptide inhibitors, but it does not have any binding sites on proteins.br>br>
