6-Azaindole-2-carboxylic acid is a modulator that binds to and modulates the function of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). 6-Azaindole-2-carboxylic acid is a selective agonist for the CB1 receptor. It has been shown to potentiate the binding of other GPCR ligands, such as β-arrestin, thereby enhancing signaling by these receptors. 6-Azaindole-2-carboxylic acid also has been shown to be an allosteric antagonist of the α1A adrenergic receptor in binding assays. This agent has also been shown to bind to and inhibit the function of adenylyl cyclase, which converts ATP into cyclic AMP.
