Propionyl bromide is a synthetic compound that has been used for the acylation of aromatic hydrocarbons. It is a reactive chemical that readily reacts with water and halides to form acids. Propionyl bromide is soluble in organic solvents such as acetic acid or chloroform. This chemical can be used for the production of polylactic acid, which is an environmentally friendly polymer. Covid-19 pandemic virus, which causes severe respiratory disease, was found to be sensitive to propionyl bromide in electron microscopy studies. The functional groups on this molecule are propionyl and chloride.
