1-(4-(Piperazin-1-yl)phenyl)ethanone is a supramolecular compound that has antimicrobial and anticancer activity. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to their DNA. This compound also inhibits mitochondrial function, leading to cell death. 1-(4-(Piperazin-1-yl)phenyl)ethanone binds to the electron acceptor, anthracene, and its chromophore, carboxylate. It has been shown to be effective against cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. This compound also has anti-inflammatory properties that may be due to the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis.
