Descripción

3-Pentanone is a ketone that has been widely used in the chemical industry and as a solvent. 3-Pentanone undergoes thermal expansion when heated to its optimum concentration and it can be used as a buffer in the presence of water vapor. 3-Pentanone is chemically stable, but may react with hydrogen fluoride or metal oxides such as zirconium oxide. 3-Pentanone's analytical method involves gas chromatography with an electron capture detector (GC-ECD). The GC column is packed with 5% phenyl methyl silicone phase and the resolution of peaks is enhanced by using hydrogen fluoride as a reagent. The kinetic data for this compound are determined by measuring the rate at which it reacts with hydroxyl groups.
