The hydrogen bond interactions in this molecule are stabilized by the phenyl substituents on the benzene rings. The grignard reagent reacts with potassium phosphate to produce a ternary complex. This complex then reacts with anions such as chloride, fluoride, or bromide to produce hydrogen gas and 9,10 phenanthrenequinone.
