1-(1H-Indol-4-yloxy)-3-[(1-methylethyl)amino]-2-propanol is a 5-HT receptor agonist that is used in the treatment of depression. The drug has been shown to increase 5-HT concentrations in the brain, as well as having an effect on other neurotransmitter systems such as dopamine and norepinephrine. It has also been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in neurons, causing neuronal death. This compound has been found to be effective against congestive heart failure by improving myocardial contractile function and reducing myocardial infarct size.
