2-Propionyl phenothiazine (2PP) is an antioxidant that is used to stabilize and protect the integrity of other compounds. 2PP has been shown to have a good stability profile, as it does not degrade when exposed to ultraviolet light or x-rays. It also has a high tolerance for pH changes, which makes it suitable for use in buffer solutions. The presence of 2PP can be detected by gas chromatography, which produces a yellow color on the column. This compound is easily separated from other compounds due to its low molecular weight and high boiling point. It can be isolated from crude samples using chromatographic methods such as thin layer chromatography. These methods are also used for the spectroscopic analysis of 2PP, which produces a strong spectrum with peaks at 270 nm and 330 nm due to the presence of uv light.
