Descripción:Protamine sulfate is a fusogenic protein that is used to maintain the pH balance in the blood. It binds to hematopoietic cells and inhibits their uptake by macrophages, which reduces the removal of immune complexes. Protamine sulfate can also inhibit erythrocyte aggregation and reduce the production of reactive oxygen species. Protamine sulfate has been shown to be effective in vitro against HIV infection and fusogenic viruses such as influenza virus and herpes simplex virus. Protamine sulfate has also been shown to be effective in vivo for the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis.
