• Descripción: Propionyl-L-carnitine is a biological sample that has been widely used in the treatment of heart disease. It is also a pharmacological treatment for bowel disease and ischemia-reperfusion injury. Propionyl-L-carnitine acts as an antioxidant to reduce oxidative damage by reactive oxygen species, or ROS. In addition, this compound may have antiarrhythmic effects, which lead to the prevention of ventricular fibrillation and other cardiac arrhythmias. Propionyl-L-carnitine has been shown to be effective in experimental models for cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure. Propionyl-L-carnitine is a precursor for the production of acetylcholine, which plays an important role in nerve transmission and muscle contraction. This compound also helps maintain energy metabolism during periods of low nutrient availability or during exercise by aiding in the transport of fatty acids into mitochondria.
