The molecule has shown to be effective against histidine-sensitive strains of Escherichia coli, which are associated with inflammatory bowel disease. N-Phenylglycine ethyl ester has been shown to be effective at concentrations below 1 mM. This drug also has a low redox potential, making it suitable for use in the treatment of conditions where oxidative stress plays a major role.
