Descripción:Phthalylsulfathiazole is a metal chelate that has been used as an antimicrobial agent and for the treatment of choroidal neovascularization. It has shown to be effective against infectious diseases such as urinary tract infections, pyelonephritis, and septicemia. Phthalylsulfathiazole is also used for the treatment of calcium pantothenate deficiency, which may be caused by intestinal bacteria. The drug's mechanism of action is not fully understood but it has been shown to bind to the hydroxyl group on DNA polymerase and inhibit its activity. Phthalylsulfathiazole can be synthesized in two ways: 1) Reaction with sodium carbonate and sodium citrate: 2) Reaction with sodium salts and metal ions: The reaction mechanism begins with the addition of metal ions onto the sulfonium salt. This leads to displacement of one chloride ion from the sulfonium salt,
