(S)-(+)-2-Phenylglycine methyl ester hydrochloride has been shown to have a protective effect against prostate cancer in animal models, although it was not active against prostate cancer cells in vitro. This may be due to its inability to cross the cell membrane or its inability to effectively penetrate the nucleus, which is where cancerous cells originate.
