2H-Pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid is a potent antagonist of the human histamine H2 receptor. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of carcinoma cell lines in vitro and also inhibits the production of acid from hydrochloric acid by inhibiting hydrogen bonding interactions. 2H-Pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid has also been shown to have antiinflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. This drug also binds to copper chloride with a coordination geometry in which two nitrogen atoms are bridging the copper atom and the pyrazole ring. The magnesium salt of 2H-pyrazole-3-carboxylic acid is used as an horticultural insecticide. The frequency shift observed when this drug binds with magnesium chloride is characteristic for a square planar complex.
