Pentafluorophenyl)diphenylphosphine is a chlorine-containing compound that has been shown to inhibit methane monooxygenase. The reaction mechanism of this inhibition is proposed to be based on the formation of an electron-deficient pentafluorophenyl radical, which binds to the active site of methane monooxygenase. This binding forces the substrate out of the active site and prevents it from being oxidized by molecular oxygen.
