Phenylthioacetonitrile is an organic compound that belongs to the group of sulfonic acids. It has a ph optimum of 3-5 and can be used as a solvent in organic reactions. Phenylthioacetonitrile is also a substrate for cytochrome P-450, which produces trifluoromethyl phenylthioacetonitril, which is more reactive than the starting material. Research has shown that this reaction may be catalyzed by chloride ions. Phenylthioacetonitrile may also react with acetyl derivatives to form substituted phenols, which are used in the treatment of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and malaria. This compound can also be used to produce ethyl benzoylacetate, an intermediate for perfumes and flavors. The structural similarity between phenylthioacetonitrile and other molecules allows it to act as a model system for studying nucleophilic attack reactions.br>br>
