It functions primarily as an insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R) inhibitor, disrupting downstream signaling pathways that are essential for cellular proliferation and survival. By selectively inhibiting IGF-1R, picropodophyllin interferes with critical cellular processes, such as DNA synthesis and cell cycle progression, which are vital in oncogenic transformation.
