This chemical is used in wastewater treatment to reduce the amount of hydrogen fluoride in water. Perfluorooctanesulfonyl fluoride has been shown to be an effective agent against infectious diseases, such as hepatitis B and C, by inhibiting the enzyme DNA polymerase. It also has a role in the analytical method for detecting human serum proteins. The toxicological studies have shown that it may cause reproductive and developmental effects, including a decrease in the body mass index and natural compounds sodium carbonate and potassium dichromate.
