N-Phenylethanethioamide is a diazonium salt that can be used in pharmaceutical preparations. It has been shown to have antiviral activity against virus type-1 (HIV). N-Phenylethanethioamide has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus, by binding to proteins and inhibiting their function. The conformational properties of this molecule are important for its biological function. N-Phenylethanethioamide is highly reactive and can be used in organometallic chemistry, such as hydrogen bonding with nitrogen atoms. X-ray crystal structures of this molecule have revealed that it has an irreversible inhibition mechanism on the enzyme diazonium reductase.
