Peimine is a natural product that has been shown to inhibit the growth of HL-60 cells. It is structurally similar to curcumin, which has been shown to have anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory activities. Peimine also inhibits the expression of mucin gene in fetal bovine lung cells. This compound has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of chronic cough cells and can be used as an analytical method for detection of human serum. Peimine binds to the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) substrate DNA with hydrogen bonding interactions and inhibits the enzyme activity, resulting in reduced production of dsDNA.
Peimine has also been shown to have inhibitory properties against bacterial and fungal pathogens, including Salmonella typhimurium and Candida albicans.
